I have had this recording since it came out in 1983. At the time, it was one of my first CD purchases, and how things have changed. The performance clocks in around 34 minutes, and for a full price CD it was a bit of an extravagance on the record company’s part at full price. And to top it off it was not even tracked or indexed, just one big track. Nonetheless, Ozawa and the Boston Symphony give a great performance of this Strauss warhorse, and with stellar sound, surely one of the first digital ASZ recordings.
